What is Botox?

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic injectables on the market, and it isn’t a dermal filler. Instead, it relieves small wrinkles and fine lines on your face that make you look older. In some cases, physicians also use it to treat conditions associated with overactive muscles.

The key ingredient in Botox injections is a neurotoxin that eases the nerve signals communicating with your muscles. The neurotoxin, called botulinum toxin, comes from certain bacteria in nature and is deadly in large amounts.

Each Botox injection includes just a small amount that affects the targeted muscle without affecting nearby muscles. This means that you can still move your face and make facial expressions while the drug is active.

At Radiance MD, Dr. Jnananand places each Botox injection meticulously to reduce wrinkling. The final results last for around four months, but you can get repeated injections if you like the way you look with them.

Who should consider getting Botox?

At Radiance MD, Dr. Jnananand offers Botox injections to treat specific fine facial lines and wrinkles. The type of wrinkles treatable with Botox are called dynamic wrinkles.

Each time you make a facial expression or the muscles in your face flex subconsciously, dynamic wrinkles deepen. By using Botox on the muscles forming these wrinkles, you can significantly diminish their appearance. You should consider getting Botox if you have:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Lines at the corners of your mouth

Dr. Jnananand can help you decide which wrinkles to treat with Botox during your consultation. If you have concerns about other wrinkles, she can tell you if Botox works for them.

How should I prepare for my Botox injections?

Adequately preparing for your Botox injections minimizes your chances of experiencing unwanted side effects from the treatment. First and foremost, you should attend a consultation with Dr. Jnananand to discuss your aesthetic goals and make sure you don’t have any health conditions that would preclude you from treatment.

To prepare for the treatment, Dr. Jnananand may recommend:

  • Avoiding smoking
  • Avoiding medications that thin your blood
  • Arriving with clean skin

After your appointment, you can go directly back to work or return to any other daily activities or responsibilities safely. If you get them, side effects are typically mild and do not last for long.

If fine facial lines are one of your most prominent cosmetic concerns, call Radiance MD to find out if you’re a candidate for Botox or book a consultation online today.
