What is Kybella?

Kybella is the only injectable drug on the market that treats a double chin. Double chins are common because the skin and fat on your lower face must work against gravity to stay tight. They’re also often genetic features, so they can be particularly difficult to lose with typical weight- and fat-loss methods like dieting and exercise. Kybella reduces the fat on your double chin by absorbing it.

How does Kybella work?

Deoxycholic acid, the key ingredient in Kybella, is an acid that you can find in your stomach. It’s responsible for helping you digest the fat in your diet. The man-made form of it in Kybella works similarly to absorb the fat cells within your double chin. Dr. Jnananand carefully places your injections beneath your chin to evenly distribute the product throughout the area of fat.

You’ll likely need a series of about six Kybella treatments to achieve the results you’d like to see. Dr. Jnananand can help you book your treatments with about one month of healing time between each of them. It takes a couple of months for you to see the results of each injection session.

How long do the results of Kybella last?

Kybella is a unique cosmetic injectable because the results are permanent. Once Kybella eliminates the fat cells beneath your chin, they’re gone for good. As long as you maintain a weight within a normal range for your body type, you’ll continue to enjoy a contoured jawline without the extra volume under your chin.

How should I prepare for Kybella?

There is very little you need to do before your Kybella treatment. Just like with other cosmetic procedures, you should attend a treatment consultation at Radiance MD with Dr. Jnananand to talk about your goals and make sure you’re a candidate considering your medical history. You should be sure to tell her about any previous cosmetic procedures you’ve had on your face or on your chin and neck.

To prepare for the procedure, she might suggest that you:

  • Take a break from smoking
  • Stop taking ibuprofen and other blood-thinning medications
  • Wash your face before your appointment
  • Arrive at your appointment with no makeup on
  • Schedule your injections long before any important events

Dr. Jnananand can answer all of your questions before your series of treatments begins, so you know exactly what to expect at each appointment and from the results.
